Consolation 101

“It’s just a pinch, trust me…”
She said it’d make me high
Walk on the moon even
I mean, who wouldn’t draw nigh?
The urge grew
Like a cancer
Time flew
Couldn’t be wiser
All I wanted was sugar
To lick it however
But she went away
No warnings, no nothing
Had to cross the bridge on my own
For days, I wondered how
This profound sweetness
Added salt to my injury
With lemon as the icing
The reaction, breath taking
There’s a lot I didn’t notice
Till I was standing in the dark
A strange strength was growing
Inside my shadowed heart
But I couldn’t tell, still
‘Cause all I wanted was sugar
This time, His voice was so lucid
No doubt
I looked the other way though
As was the norm
Why stop now, you know?
When drowning in it’s crystals
Gave me false hope
A white lie to get away
To steal again
Just a glance
Later on, I’d cry out His name
With sugar on my hand
Some scattered all over my lips
Begging for mercy
After all I am His child
And He, my only constant
But was it worth it?
With or without liberation
It remained a cycle of consolation
